I was born in Tokyo in 1982 and at the age of 9 months, I left Japan and grew up in different countries following the missions of my father and language professor mother. Because of this international exposure from the beginning of my life, cultural diversity and foreign languages have always been an important influence in my artistic career. I have always been fascinated by different forms of beauty in different parts of the world. This has ultimately led to my life’s work.
After my studies in art history and French literature at New York University and fashion design at Studio Berçot in Paris, I landed on my first job at Yves Saint Laurent. From my first day of my career until now, I have devoted all my time in designing leather goods. I spent five years at Givenchy, three years at Delvaux, two years at Nina Ricci and the list of brands goes on. In 2012, when I first became an independent designer, Kanye West was my first client and this collaboration continued for five years for his label, Yeezy. Today, I continue to work with prestigious French maisons as consultant specialized in leather goods.
Michino Paris was established in 2014 as a creative outlet for ideas. Slowly, it grew into a business and the collections are now distributed worldwide. I love travelling, discovering new places and the feeling of new beginnings. Inspiration comes from meeting new people and emotions that come with discovery and encounters. Each Michino collection is dedicated to a city, a new destination – as if it was a prolongation of my childhood experience which has defined who I am. Through my bags, I try to bring happiness and humor to everyday life.
